About Future Learning Academy
The Future Learning Academy was established in 2019 to meet the need of rapidly skilling educators to design learning experiences for students that prepare them for their lives now and in the future. There has been a dramatic increase in the demand for skills of creativity (increase of 65%) and critical thinking (158%), while collaboration and ethical reasoning are also especially important in business (Foundation for Young Australians, 2015; Burning Glass Technologies, 2019). We found educators were challenged with connecting new pedagogies with the assessment of student learning despite the effort from schools to focus on national and state-based capabilities curriculum.
Future Learning Academy provides learning experiences that equip educators with practical skills, knowledge and tools that can be immediately applied in their classrooms. Co-designed with leading schools and grounded in national and state-based curriculum frameworks, our learning experiences create a measurable impact in schools and have the highest impact on teacher practices through rapid upskilling.
After completing Future Learning Academy courses, educators will be able to design meaningful and creative learning experiences for young people. This results in better outcomes for their students, schools and their own professional development. Ultimately it fulfils our purpose of empowering young people to create a better world.
About Founder – Rowena Ulbrick

Rowena created Future Learning Academy in response to seeing so many educators struggling with delivering innovation and capability in their schools. This was largely due to lack of time, resources or inspiration. These educators would look for support within their own or other schools, or turn to Google, but this wasn’t providing them the confidence, tools or collaboration they needed.
Whilst working in school & university environments for over 15 years, Rowena rarely saw rich learning experiences being created, ones that harnessed creativity and technology. This was having a detrimental impact on learning experiences and outcomes for the educators, the schools and ultimately the students. Student’s weren’t being empowered to be better.
After previously leading learning through Senior Leadership and Head of Learning roles, and completing various training and design courses, Future Learning Academy was founded. Rowena wanted to create a dynamic workspace where educators can collaborate and be creative themselves. She understood that when educators are provided the time, practical resources and collaboration that they can create authentic and impactful learning experiences – it is our/Future Learning Academy’s mission to enable these opportunities. Ultimately what drives her is knowing that young people can be empowered to achieve anything when they are provided with meaningful learning experiences. Rowena and Future Learning Academy team firmly believe that every person deserves this opportunity.
